JOB SUMMARY

  • The Pharmacy Technician assists, collaborates, and supports the pharmacist in their role in several pharmaceutical services by performing a wide range of medicine supply, secure and safe storage, assembly, repackaging, preparing of medicines for pediatric population, as well as inventory management.
  • Pharmacy Technicians perform tasks that do not require a Pharmacists skills or privileges.
  • Pharmacy Technicians always work under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

Clinical Practice:

  • Promote positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one other to achieve optimal department goals. Collaborates with other health care professionals as needed for problem resolution related to patient’s medications or pharmacy technology with collaboration of licensed Pharmacist.
  • Work with new technologies to automate and improve the safety of medicines distribution.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile formulations
  • Repack and prepare all unit dose in different dosage forms from bulk stock including solid, semisolid and liquid, and label it in a properly manner.
  • Effective use of available reference sources (paper and electronic) if they have any doubts or concerns regarding medication orders
  • Participate in the pharmacy shift system for their facility (i.e. covering 24 hours duties)

Pharmacy Technician Responsibilities:

  • Understand and adhere to AJCH standard procedures and policies as well as regulation authority and UAE MOHAP rules
  • Deliver medicines to inpatients, outpatient, controlled drugs, extemporaneous preparation and IV preparation in a safe and efficient manner under supervision of licensed pharmacist and/or narcotic pharmacist in-Charge.
  • Report all controlled, semi-controlled and narcotic drug issues to narcotic pharmacist in-charge in proper timely manner
  • Report any medication issues to Store pharmacist.
  • Assemble medications for inpatient and out-patient orders including fills (patient carts) and the replenishment of floor stocks and refilling of automated drug cabinets.
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
  • Interact with members of the healthcare team in a manner that demonstrates respect, effective communication skills and promotes teamwork
  • Preparation of Sterile IV medications and TPN under the supervision of Pharmacist
  • Document all required information of daily work and assigned duties properly, appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Validate that physician orders have been verified by a pharmacist before dispensing and
  • Assembly
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and an ability to work effectively with people of different professions and at different levels
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of drugs and supplies
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Inpatient and outpatient Pharmacy environment
  • Communicate with store Pharmacist on medication and supply needs.
  • Document quality assurance data when assigned.
  • Other professions tasks assigned.

 

Professional Practice Development:

  • Participate in educational activities and attends scientific seminars and sessions to enhance knowledge
  • Provide educational session under the guidance, support and direction of senior staff, the development of programs or quality initiatives that seek to measure and contribute to department performance indicators.
  • Complete practice, hospital and annual competencies as assigned
  • Participate in regulatory compliance teams as assigned
  • Other professional duties, as assigned.

 

Education / Essential:

  • One-year or two- year diploma or certificate of completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program from an accredited educational institution, college or university.

 

Experience

  • UAE National – Fresh technician graduate
  • Non UAE National – 1 year technician experience

 

Certification and Licensure

  • Current Professional License in country of Origin / home country.
  • DHCC License to practice as Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician
  • BLS

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to speak and write English is required
