About the job
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conceptualize, design, produce, and edit visually appealing materials such as flyers, ads, brochures, logos, office signage, exhibits, displays, and any sort of media, as needed.
- Design and produce camera-ready artwork including graphs, charts, clip art, posters, digitization of graphics, line art, and/or photos.
- Develop and produce web-based graphics, as requested.
- Develop and deliver training programs that showcase the possibilities of using advanced graphic design solutions and technology in teaching and other academic activities.
- Serve as a liaison between the TLC and printers, copywriters, photographers, stylists, illustrators, other designers, account executives, web developers, and marketing specialists.
- Coordinate the production process to ensure the high quality of the final product. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Processing and creating images;
- Setting and monitoring printing and other reproduction specifications (selects ink, paper, and print quality);
- Inspecting proofs for accuracy and logic;
- Recommending contractors when needed;
- Ensuring the overall quality of the final product.
Consult with faculty and staff to:
- Identify their graphics needs and budget constraints;
- Develop visually appealing graphic materials;
- Set and implement reasonable deadlines;
- Offer training as needed.
- Create and maintain a record (i.e., a library) of all the produced materials.
- Attend events, take photos, write and edit textual materials, as appropriate, which may include press releases in some instances.
- Provide technical support and install software programs as needed.
- Monitor advancements in graphic design applications and technology and make recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
- Attend TLC meetings, and other AU meetings as needed, and contribute positively.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the TLC manager.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a closely related field.
- 5 years of experience in graphics design.
- Prior experience in academic settings is a great plus.
- Ability to present a reasonable portfolio of prior work and evidence of experiences(please bring your laptop with you to interview if selected).
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Technical
- Thorough professional-level knowledge of the principles, practices, and current development in graphic design.
- Demonstrable proficiency in graphic design software programs.
- Ability to create and produce graphic materials using a wide range of methods, techniques, and equipment.
- Thorough professional-level knowledge of multimedia requirements and procedures.
- Ability to analyze graphic and technical information and create interpretive illustrations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret graphic requirements of various stakeholders, especially faculty.
- Develop print and/or reproduction specifications.
- Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements.
Personal
- Strong interpersonal skills and effectively communicating with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
- Enthusiasm, teamwork, and attention to detail.
- English fluency (both oral and written).
- Fluency in Arabic is desired.
- Ability to work under stress and tight deadlines when needed.
