Job Position – Learning Support Assistant

Company Name – Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

A leading British international school catering to students from Year 1 to 13, located in Jumeirah Park, Dubai. An available for a Pastoral Learning Support Assistant to join established secondary school this August 2023, working closely within the Pastoral, Inclusion and Counselling team.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide pastoral support to pupils identified by secondary school pastoral team.
  • Work closely with secondary school counsellor to provide emotional support to pupils on a day-to-day basis.
  • Receive and supervise pupils not working to normal timetable and facilitate reflection and reparation.
  • Establish productive working relationships with identified pupils, acting as a role model.
  • Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements with pupils and provide support for distressed pupils.
  • Support transition of pupils across phases and the re-integration of those who have been absent.
  • Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance.
  • Challenge and motivate pupils and promote and reinforce self-esteem.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers, exchanging information, facilitating their support for their child’s attendance, access and learning and supporting home to school and community links
  • Work within the Pastoral, Inclusion, Counselling Team

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • A Levels or equivalent
  • Education in Psychology (desirable)
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Child Protection Level 2-3 trained (preferable)
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Willing to attend courses (Mental Health First Aid, counselling / therapy courses)
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, understand classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
