Fire Safety Specialist – Senior Design Lead

Responsible and accountable for the effective and efficient management of implementation of fire safety engineering services for the allocated projects within the program activity. The role shall be responsible to perform the Fire Safety Engineer functions that are essential to impart engineering principles in all the development projects

Responsibilities

• Review the fire life safety design and identify compliance with all applicable international, local codes and regulations.
• Review FLS engineering judgements, CFD analysis, building evacuation models or any other FLS design reports as required.
• Engage and liaise with the authorities having jurisdictions for all FLS matters including design approval, obtaining building permit, construction inspection and obtaining occupancy certificate.
• Make decisions on engineering/scientific problems and methods relating to FLS using advanced techniques, theories, practices of the particular field.
• Review value engineering options proposed by the design consultants for feasibility and accuracy from a technical perspective
• Provide necessary technical input and relevant information to program manager/other relevant functions to maintain compliance with codes and standards
• Responsibility for the review of the overall design of fire protection, detection and activation systems & deliverables, including concept design, schematic design, design development, tender design / documentation (including technical specifications, BOQ, schedules and drawings)
• Provide necessary technical input for local authority permitting process, NOC requirements for all projects
• Ensure product, equipment and materials proposed for the projects comply with project specifications, international standards and local codes of practice
• Provide timely alert and escalate the issues when necessary to avoid technical risks/deviations from plans.
• Manage specific projects by providing lead role of CMA or 3rd party based on project demands in the event of non-availability.
• Assist the project manager with engineering review and approvals during the construction/delivery stages of projects [i.e. rfi’s, shop drawing review, material reviews and submittals, technical resolution, multidisciplinary review and co-ordination on live projects etc]
• Work with the project manager to assist with the transfer of final designs to facilities management/end users at the closeout stage

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering required
• Minimum 15 years experience in heavy industrial systems mechanical design (Fire fighting and Life Safety Systems)
• Potential to preform in a lead capacity
• Prefer candidates with experience in mechanical design/engineering of facilities and related mechanical systems
• Candidate must be proficient with AutoCAD
• Revit experience preferred
